Spiritual Direction

A space for prayerful reflection, honest discernment, and deeper attentiveness to God in your life.

Spiritual direction offers a space to pray, reflect, and grow in attentiveness to God’s presence in your life. It can be especially helpful during seasons of discernment, transition, struggle, spiritual dryness, or a deeper desire for prayer.

Sessions typically range from $50 to $100.

What Is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual direction is a prayerful conversation that helps a person reflect on their spiritual life and become more attentive to God’s presence, movement, and invitation. It is a space to bring prayer, questions, struggles, desires, discernment, and the realities of daily life before the Lord.

The goal of spiritual direction is not performance, pressure, or quick fixes. It is deeper awareness, deeper freedom, and deeper relationship with God.

Spiritual Direction and Therapy

Spiritual direction and therapy are not the same, though they can complement one another well.

Spiritual direction focuses on a person’s relationship with God, prayer life, discernment, and spiritual growth. Therapy focuses on mental health treatment, emotional healing, patterns of behavior, relationships, and psychological well-being.

Spiritual direction is not psychotherapy, does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions, and is not regulated by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Therapy, by contrast, is a clinical service governed by professional licensure and legal standards.

Both can be valuable. Some people seek spiritual direction, some seek therapy, and some benefit from both depending on their needs and season of life.

My Approach to Spiritual Direction

My approach to spiritual direction is deeply shaped by the Jesuit and Ignatian tradition, especially its attentiveness to discernment, prayerful reflection, and finding God in all things. I value creating a space that is calm, honest, attentive, and rooted in trust.

My background in counseling also shapes the way I listen. I tend to approach spiritual direction with warmth, presence, empathy, and deep respect for each person’s story. While spiritual direction is distinct from therapy, I believe good spiritual accompaniment should still feel personal, attentive, and human.

What a Session May Include

A session may include prayer, reflection on your spiritual life, discussion of patterns or movements you have been noticing, discernment around decisions or seasons of life, questions about prayer, and honest conversation about where you may feel close to God or distant from Him.

It is a space to listen well, reflect carefully, and notice what may be drawing you toward greater faith, freedom, peace, and love.

Who Spiritual Direction May Be For

Spiritual direction may be a good fit for those who:

  • desire a deeper prayer life
  • are navigating discernment or vocational questions
  • want to grow in awareness of God’s presence
  • are moving through a season of transition, struggle, or spiritual dryness
  • want a consistent space for faith-based reflection and accompaniment

Session Rhythm and Format

Spiritual direction is typically offered in one-on-one sessions that last about 50 minutes. Many people meet every two to four weeks, depending on their season of life, needs, and desired rhythm of accompaniment.

Some people come during a particular season of discernment or transition. Others seek spiritual direction as an ongoing practice of prayerful reflection and growth. The frequency and length of accompaniment can be discussed together based on what seems most helpful.
